September 30, 2014 - Taffic Shift on I-20 from SR-46 (MP 205) in Helflin to west of the Tallapossa River (MP 209)

May 29, 2014 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts, in Cleburne County
The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from State Route 46 (mile marker 205) in Heflin to west of the Tallapoosa River continues to move forward.

Westbound traffic is being shifted to the new inside lane and shoulder from milepost 205 to milepost 209. The lanes are narrowed in this area. Grading, drainage and paving will continue on the outside lanes and shoulder. Traffic will be shifted to the inside lane and shoulder until approximately September 2014.

Dec. 4, 2013 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Cleburne County near Heflin
Weather permitting, the contractor will continue paving in the median seven days per week during daytime hours. They will also be pouring median barrier wall six days per week. Trucks will be entering and exiting roadway frequently.

Between mile markers 205 and 209, eastbound and westbound traffic is shifted to the outside lane and shoulder. The lane widths are reduced in this area. Grading, drainage and concrete work and paving will continue in the median in this area to add additional lane in both directions. Traffic will be shifted to the outside lane and shoulder until approximately February 2014.

Motorists are urged to slow down and observe the 55 mph work zone speed limit.

PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Closures in Cleburne County near Heflin
Beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, I-20 Eastbound and Westbound traffic, from mile marker 206 to 209, will be reduced to one lane. The outside lane will be closed ifor workers to perform repairs on the outside lane and shoulder. This outside lane closure will remain in place until 8 a.m. Thursday, May 9. This operation will be in place in the same location from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., daily until May 20, 2013.

Sept. 5, 2013 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Cleburne County
The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from State Route 46 (mile marker 205) in Heflin to west of the Tallapoosa River continues to move forward.

Weather permitting, beginning Friday night Sept. 6, westbound traffic from mile marker 208 to mile marker 211 will be shifted to the final location onto the completed outside lanes.

Beginning Friday night Sept. 13, weather permitting, eastbound traffic from mile marker 211 to mile marker 208 will be shifted to the final location onto the completed outside lanes.

Additionally, eastbound ramps may intermittently be closed Sept. 9-15 for paving.

A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, I-20 East traffic, from mile marker 207 to 209, will be reduced to one lane in
order for the contractor to perform work on the inside shoulder. This lane closure will remain in place until 6 a.m., Wednesday, May 29. This operation will be in place in the same location from 8 p.m., May 29 to 6 a.m., May 30.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 30, I-20 West traffic, from mile marker 209 to 207 will be reduced to one lane in order for the contractor to perform work on the inside shoulder. This lane closure will remain in place until 6 a.m., Friday, May 31.

Status: From mile marker 205 to 209, East and West traffic is shifted to the outside lane and shoulder. The lanes are reduced to 11 feet in this area. Grading, drainage and concrete work and paving will continue in the median in this area to add additional lanes in both directions. Traffic will be shifted to the outside lane and shoulder until approximately January 2014.

April 9, 2013 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Cleburne County
The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from west of the Tallapoosa River east of Heflin to east of County Road 49 continues to move forward.

The Westbound traffic from Mile Marker 208.0 to Mile Marker 211.0 is shifted from the existing outside lane and shoulder onto the newly constructed inside lane and shoulder..

The Eastbound traffic from Mile Marker 211.0 to Mile Marker 208.0 is shifted from the existing outside lane and shoulder onto the newly constructed inside lane and shoulder.

A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.

PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Cleburne County

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from west of the Tallapoosa River east of Heflin to east of County Road 49 continues to move forward.

Beginning at 6 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013, the Westbound traffic from Mile Marker 208.0 to Mile Marker 211.0 will be shifted from the existing outside lane and shoulder onto the newly constructed inside lane and shoulder. This work will be continuous and anticipated to be complete by Friday, February 1, 2013 at 6 a.m. The Westbound ramp at Exit 210 will be closed during this 24 hour timeframe needed for this lane shift.

Beginning at 6 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013, the Eastbound traffic from Mile Marker 211.0 to Mile Marker 208.0 will be shifted from the existing outside lane and shoulder onto the newly constructed inside lane and shoulder. This work will be continuous and anticipated to be complete by Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 6 a.m. The Eastbound ramp at Exit 210 will be closed during this 24 hour timeframe needed for this lane shift.

PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Cleburne County

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from west of the Tallapoosa River east of Heflin to east of County Road 49 continues to move forward.
I-20 westbound traffic may be reduced to one (outside) lane from mile marker 210.7 to 210.0 intermittently over the next few weeks. Weather permitting, westbound traffic will be temporarily shifted to the inside lane on Friday, Jan. 18 beginning at 9.a.m. to work on the existing shoulder in that area. A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. Motorists can expect delays during the lane shifts and are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.

Dec. 18, 2012 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Calhoun County
The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from the Snow Creek Bridge in Oxford to the Cleburne County line continues to move forward.
Weather permitting, westbound traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed inside shoulder and inside lane from mile marker 188 to mile marker 186 on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19.
Weather permitting, eastbound traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed inside shoulder and inside lane from mile marker 186 to mile marker 188 on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
After these lane shifts are complete, traffic is tentatively scheduled to remain on the newly constructed inside shoulders and inside lanes in both directions until April 2013.
A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. Motorists can expect delays during the lane shifts and are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.

May 15, 2012 - PROGRESS 20 Announced Traffic Shifts Until Fall 2012
From Mile Marker 208 to 211 Eastbound and Westbound traffic is shifted to the existing outside lane and outside shoulder until approximately October, 2012.


  •  Lane Closures.
  •  Increased State Trooper Presence.
  •  Accident.
  •  Moderate Public Delays Can Be Expedcted.
  •  A speed limit of 55 mph will be strongly enforced in the Work Zone.
  •  Adhere to the posted speed limits.
  •  Pay attention.
  •  Use proper turn signals for lane changes.
  •  Do not weave in and out of traffic.
  •  Keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
  •  Minimize distractions such as using cellular telephones.
  •  As always, buckle up.
  •  For your safety and the safety of others, watch for lane/ramp closures and detour signs.
  •  Continue to pay attention to work zone signs, even when the work is long term or widespread.
  •  Remain Calm.
