Construction Updates Follows:
January 22, 2014 - Although the project is almost complete the speed limit temporarily remains at 55 mph through the work zone.
June 13, 2013 - Eastbound traffic is traveling in the center and right lanes. Westbound traffic is remains in contraflow from mile marker 186-185. From mile marker 185 to the west end of project traffic is still shifted to the inside lane and inside shoulder while paving continues on the center and outside lanes. Westbound traffic is scheduled to be placed on the center and outside lanes from mile marker 185 to the west end of project Saturday, June 15 beginning around midnight. After the Westbound traffic is placed on the center and outside lanes, the inside shoulders of both east and west bound roadways will be paved.

April 9, 2013 - The
Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project
to repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20
from west of the HJ Bentley Parkway Bridge east of Snow
Creek Bridge in Oxford continues to move forward.
Westbound traffic from Mile Marker 186.0 to Mile Marker
184.0 is currently shifted into contraflow, meaning the two
lanes of traffic on the westbound roadway is split between
the newly constructed inside, westbound and eastbound lanes,
separated by the permanent median barrier wall. From Mile
Marker 184.0 to Mile Marker 181.5, westbound traffic will
remain in the newly constructed inside lane and inside
shoulder. Westbound traffic wishing to exit at Exit 185 onto
State Route 21 must use the right lane at Mile Marker 185.5.
Eastbound traffic from Mile Marker 181.5 to mile marker
184.5 will remain on the inside shoulder and inside lane.
From Mile Marker 184.5 to Mile Marker 186.0, the traffic is
placed on the newly constructed eastbound outside lanes.

The work originally scheduled to begin at 8 p.m., Thursday,
Feb. 7 has be rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 9, weather
permitting. Westbound traffic from Mile Marker 186.0 to Mile
Marker 184.0 will be shifted into contraflow, meaning the
two lanes of traffic on the westbound roadway will be split
between the newly constructed inside, westbound and
eastbound lanes, separated by the permanent median barrier
wall. From Mile Marker 184.0 to Mile Marker 181.5, westbound
traffic will remain in the newly constructed inside lane and
inside shoulder. Westbound traffic wishing to exit at Exit
185 onto State Route 21 must use the right lane at Mile
Marker 185.5.

newly constructed inside lane and inside shoulder. Westbound
traffic wishing to exit at Exit 185 onto State Route 21 must
use the right lane at Mile Marker 185.5
Feb. 5, 2013 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane
Shifts in Talladega/Calhoun Counties
The Alabama
Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to
repave and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20
from west of the HJ Bentley Parkway Bridge east of Snow
Creek Bridge in Oxford continues to move forward.
Beginning at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, eastbound
traffic from Mile Marker 181.5 to mile marker 184.5 will
remain on the inside shoulder and inside lane. From Mile
Marker 184.5 to Mile Marker 186.0, the contraflow will
be removed and traffic will be placed on the newly
constructed eastbound outside lanes. This eastbound
traffic shift will not disrupt the traffic flow of the
eastbound ramps at Exit 185.
Beginning at 8 p.m.,
Thursday, Feb. 7, Westbound traffic from Mile Marker 186
to Mile Marker 184 will be shifted into contraflow,
meaning the two lanes of traffic on the westbound
roadway will be split between the newly constructed
inside, westbound and eastbound lanes, separated by the
permanent median barrier wall. From Mile Marker 184 to
Mile Marker 181.5, westbound traffic will remain in the
newly constructed inside lane and inside shoulder.
Westbound traffic wishing to exit at Exit 185 onto State
Route 21 must use the right lane at Mile Marker 185.5.
The speed limit in the contraflow area will be
reduced to 45 mph. The speed limit in the remainder of
the project will remain at 55 mph at this time.
Motorists can expect delays during the lane shifts and
are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust
arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits
and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in
this area.

Jan. 7, 2013 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in Calhoun County
Calhoun County, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave
and construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 from the Snow Creek Bridge in Oxford to the Cleburne
County line continues to move forward.
From MP 186 to MP 188, Eastbound and Westbound traffic is shifted to the new inside lane and shoulder.
Grading, drainage work and resurfacing will be done on the outside lanes and shoulder in this area.
Traffic will be shifted to the outside shoulder until approximately April 2013.
Trucks must use the right lane from MP 186 to MP 188.
A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect in the work zone. Motorists can expect delays during the
lane shifts and are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe
work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
July 30, 2012 - PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Closures/Shifts in Calhoun County
The Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to repave and construct additional lanes on
Interstate 20 from the Snow Creek Bridge in Oxford to the Cleburne County line continues to move forward.
Weather permitting; Progress 20 announces the following traffic changes:
• The eastbound inside lane is closed from mile marker 192 to mile marker 194 for resurfacing. Traffic is shifted to
the outside lane in this work area until Tuesday, July 31 at 12 p.m.
• Additionally, the westbound outside lane is closed from mile marker 192.5 to mile marker 191 until 5 p.m. today
to remove concrete barriers.
Tuesday, July 31, at 12 p.m., the eastbound outside lane will be closed from mile marker 192 to mile marker 194
for resurfacing. Traffic will be shifted to the inside lane in this area until 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 2.
Additional current traffic configurations in this project are as follows:
• Between mile markers 186 and 188, eastbound and westbound traffic is shifted to the outside shoulders until
approximately December while work continues in the median to construct additional lanes.
• From mile marker 192 to mile marker 190, westbound traffic is shifted to the inside shoulder until approximately
August 3 to widen the Choccolocco Creek Relief Bridge and extend deceleration and acceleration lanes for Exit
191 (U.S. Highway 431).
A reduced speed limit of 55 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists may want to consider using
alternate routes and adjusting arrival/departure times. Motorists should observe work-zone speed limits and other
work-zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. State troopers will control traffic and strictly enforce speed
limits.
June 8, 2012 - Between mile markers 186 and 188, Eastbound and Westbound traffic is shifted to the outside shoulder. Grading,
drainage work and paving will continue in the median in this area to add an additional lane in both directions.
Traffic will be shifted to the outside shoulder until approximately December 2012..
June 8, 2012 - Between mile markers 192 and 190, Eastbound and Westbound traffic is shifted to the inside
shoulder to widen the Choccolocco Creek Relief bridge and extend deceleration and acceleration lanes for Exit 191.
The lanes are reduced to 11 feet wide in this area. Traffic will be shifted to the inside shoulder until
approximately August 2012.

- Moderate Public Delays Can Be Expedcted.
- A speed limit of 55 mph will be strongly enforced in the Work Zone.
- Adhere to the posted speed limits.
- Pay attention.
- Use proper turn signals for lane changes.
- Do not weave in and out of traffic.
- Keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
- Minimize distractions such as using cellular telephones.
- As always, buckle up.
- For your safety and the safety of others, watch for lane/ramp closures and detour signs.
- Continue to pay attention to work zone signs, even when the work is long term or widespread.
- Remain Calm.
